--LMHRA Staffers Conclude Training In China
Two staffers of the Liberia Medicines and Health Products Regulatory Authority (LMHRA), alongside thirty (30) other health practitioners, have successfully completed a two-week seminar on Public Health and standard Health Standards in Chengdu, southwestern China.
It is highly anticipated that knowledge gained will play a vital role in strengthening Liberia's public health infrastructure and enhancing the quality and safety of health products and services across the Liberia.
The training which took place on May 9- 22, 2025, was fully sponsored by the People’s Republic of China and organized by the Chengdu Institute of Standardization in collaboration with the International Standardization Talent Training and Communication Base.
As part of broader strategic partnership between Liberia and China, the training aimed at strengthening Liberia’s healthcare delivery system, seeking to introduce Liberian professionals to global best practices and innovations in public health.
Representing the LMHRA, were the Training Coordinator, Dr. Flomoku G. Miller and the Assistant Manager for Medicines Information, Dr. Humphrey B. Taylor.
According to Dr. Miller, the core objective of the seminar is to educate attendees on the International Standardization Organization (ISO) standards and, crucially, to explore strategies for effective implementation within Liberia's healthcare and regulatory frameworks.
Portion of the program, he said was dedicated to offer valuable insights into China's rich cultural heritage, historical perspectives, and impressive technological advancements.
Providing further details about the seminar, Dr. Miller, head of the LMHRA delegation, explains that the program covers the fundamentals of international standardization and facilitates the exchange of development strategies.
“We appreciate the management of the LMHRA for the opportunity provided us to participate in the training, the knowledge gain will help bolster Liberia’s healthcare system, ensuring compliance with international standards for better health outcomes,” he said.
The seminar, he added introduced legal and regulatory framework for standardization, management system, and technical standardization system, among others status of international cooperation in China.
He pointed out that there is a need for more collaborations with the Liberia Standards Authority, the Ministry of Health and allied health to implement the standard of regulations in the country.
Institutions participated in the seminar are, the Liberia Medicines and Health Products Regulatory Authority (LMHRA), the Ministry of Health, the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL), the Liberia Standards Authority (LiSA), and the National Food Safety Authority.
Others are the John F. Kennedy Medical Center (JFK), the Liberia Medical Dental Council (LMDC), the Division of Pharmaceutical Services/Supply Chain, the National Diagnostic Unit, and Complementary/Traditional Medicine Unit, including fifteen clinical supervisors from the counties.
