Monrovia, May 7, 2025 — On Wednesday, Minister of Health Dr. Louise M. Kpoto paid a courtesy visit to Hon. Dr. Luke L. Bawo, Managing Director of the Liberia Medicines and Health Products Regulatory Authority (LMHRA), at his Mamba Point office.
Upon arrival, Dr. Bawo warmly received Minister Kpoto, expressing appreciation for the ongoing collaboration between the Ministry of Health and the LMHRA. He reaffirmed LMHRA’s dedication to contributing to Liberia’s development objectives, notably the ARREST Agenda under President Joseph Nyumah Boakai’s leadership.
LMHRA is Liberia’s regulatory body overseeing the safety, quality, and effectiveness of medicines, health products, and medical devices. Its primary responsibilities include: approving and registering medicines and health products, licensing pharmaceutical manufacturers, importers, and distributors, conducting inspections to enforce Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and standards, monitoring adverse drug reactions and safety issues, and raising public awareness on medicine safety.
Established to bolster Liberia’s healthcare system, LMHRA aligns with international standards and collaborates globally to ensure citizens have access to high-quality health products.
Minister Kpoto appreciated Dr. Bawo’s hospitality and highlighted her commitment to strengthening Liberia’s health sector by improving infrastructure, increasing healthcare access, fighting infectious diseases, and enhancing maternal and child health outcomes. She assured ongoing support to LMHRA to effectively execute its regulatory duties.
