Monrovia, Liberia – January 23, 2025: The Post-Market Surveillance Unit of the Liberia Medicines & Health Products Regulatory Authority (LMHRA) has wrapped up a five-day public awareness campaign aimed at combatting the sale of Substandard and Falsified (SF) medicines throughout the marketplaces in central Monrovia and surrounding areas.
In response to the rising trend of medicines being sold informally from buckets, the LMHRA’s Post-Market Surveillance (PMS) team sought to directly engage the public, especially shoppers in various markets.
Led by the Manager of the Post-Market Surveillance Unit, Dr. Matu Nyanti, the campaign highlighted the potential dangers that bucket-sold medicines pose to the health of Liberians. Dr. Nyanti emphasized the risks associated with purchasing medications from unofficial sources and called for increased awareness of the importance of obtaining medicines only from licensed pharmacies and medicines stores. The campaign specifically targeted markets such as Rally Town, Clara Town, ELWA, Nancy Doe, and Fiamah communities.
Dr. Nyanti urged citizens to avoid buying medicines from informal sellers and instead visit local pharmacies for their healthcare needs. Established in 2010 through legislation, the LMHRA is dedicated to ensuring the safety and efficacy of all medicines and health products entering Liberia.
