(Monrovia, December 2, 2024):- In celebration of World AIDS Day, the Liberia Medicines & Health Products Regulatory Authority (LMHRA) joined stakeholders and other entities of Government in a parade from 11th Street, Sinkor to the iconic Invincible Park near the Fish Town Market, in commemoration of the day.
The event brought together numerous governmental and non-governmental organizations, including the Liberia Petroleum Refinery Corporation, National Social Security and Welfare Corporation, Ministry of Post & Telecommunication, National Public Health Institute, Ministry of Health, United Nations Women, the United States Agency for International Development, Plan-Liberia, and the National AIDS Commission, among others.
This year's celebration was guided by the global theme, “Take the Rights Path; My Health, My Right,” while the national theme focused on: “One Goal, One Fight: Ending AIDS Together in Liberia.”
Serving as Guest Speaker, Dr. Clement L. Peters, World Health Organization Country Representative, urged all Liberians to prioritize the fight against HIV/AIDS.
He called on the Ministry of Health to implement effective strategies to combat the virus, emphasizing the collective responsibility to address all cases of HIV/AIDS in the country.
Representing the LMHRA at the event were: Dr. Martus Nyanti, Head of Post-Market Surveillance, Dr. Humphrey Taylor, Assistant Medicines Information Manager, Francis Jumu, and Assistant Manager for Pharmacovigilance.
Also in attendance were: Esther Beyslow, Deputy Supervisor for Logistics and Maintenance, and Princess Morton, Special Assistant to the Deputy Managing Director.
Speaking in an exclusive interview at the park, Dr. Nyanti highlighted the LMHRA's commitment to regulating medicines and ensuring the safety of health products.
She expressed gratitude to the event organizers and reaffirmed the LMHRA's dedication to supporting efforts to eradicate HIV/AIDS in Liberia.
The LMHRA, established by legislation in 2010, serves as the Government's regulatory body for ensuring the safety of medicines and health products for the country.
