Monrovia-(April 28, 2024): To apprise themselves of the activities of the Liberia Medicines and Health Products Regulatory Authority (LMHRA), the Deputy Managing Director for Technical Services, Dr. Patricia Quaye-Freeman, in consultation with Managing Director, Dr. Luke Bawo, on April 24th and 25th, 2024, visited and held separate acquaintance meetings with Managers and staff of Region-1 (Roberts International Airport) & Region-2 (Bomi, Grand Cape Mount, Gbarpolu Counties).

The respective meetings were geared towards acquainting the new LMHRA heads with activities of the various regions, as well as prospects, achievements, and challenges confronting the operations of the two regional offices.

The Regional Managers, Pharmacists John Cleeme and Morrison Tambah, in separate remarks, congratulated the Deputy Managing Director for Technical Services and her boss for their preferment. The regional heads welcomed the DMD/TS and her delegation visits to their respective regions.

Pharmacist Tambah vowed that he and his team will ensure that no Substandard and Falsified Medicines enter the land borders and also ensure that drug peddlers are raided from the communities and marketplaces within the counties. However, he stressed the issue of low manpower to fully man the border points.

They vowed to fully cooperate with the new LMHRA administration aimed at ensuring that the ARREST Agenda of President Joseph Nyumah Boakai; especially the Health Pillar, is fully achieved.
At the Region-1 RIA office, Pharmacist John Cleeme welcomed the visit of the Deputy Managing Director for Technical Services; he urged the new LMHRA administration to equip staff at the RIA with the needed items to make their work more effective.
The RIA Coordinator named rain gear and vehicles ahead of the rainy season to enable staff to have easy access to the assigned areas.
He also appeals to management to work along with other assigned institutions at the RIA to give LMHRA access to every parcel that arrives at the port to differentiate medicines and health products from other goods.

For her part, Deputy Managing Director Quaye-Freeman lauded the regional managers and their staff for their sacrifices and commitment to duty. She promised the administration fullest support to the various regions so that medicines regulation in Liberia becomes second to none.

However, the Deputy Managing Director for Technical Services stressed that the staff of the LMHRA should be fair and conscientious in the lines of their duties, as the current administration will not tolerate any business as usual.
