May 1, 2024-Monrovia: The Human Resource Unit of the Liberia Medicines and Health Products Regulatory Authority (LMHRA), recently joined their colleagues at the Association of Liberia Human Resource Professionals (ALHRP) Annual Convention which was held on Thursday, April 25, 2024, in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.
The ALHRP Annual Convention was held under the Theme: “Creating Work Value; Upskilling & Rethinking the Workforce.”
The annual conference of Liberia’s Human Resource Professionals is set aside for business experts, professional practitioners, and students working in Liberia to strengthen the human resource sector, through lectures presentations, and activities.
Furthermore, the convention is focused on the growth of the human resource sector through sustained professional development, networking, and panel discussions as well as partnership, case studies, applied learning, and practices.
Serving as Keynote Speaker, the Director General of the Civil Service Agency of Liberia (CSA), Josiah Joekai, said the convention was focused on HR development to meet present-day reality; thus using data to make informed decisions. He also encouraged HRs to use modern tools for training and work.
At the same time, the CSA Director General also stressed the need for HRs to educate their staff on their rights, benefits, and protection; while at the same time defending the administration with due diligence. Accordingly, Director General Joekai further stated that there is a need for adequate training of all HRs to ensure staff productivity. He cautioned that transfer should not be used as a corrective measure or punishment of staff, rather, transfer should be based on improving the overall development of the institution.
The CSA Director General also admonished that all HR should develop a retirement plan for their staff so that when they reach the criteria for retirement, they should be prepared to retire to private life.
Director General Joekai further warned that HRs should not be used by Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Assistant Ministers, or Managing Directors and their Deputies to move staff around due to their will or dislike.
In a related development, CSA Director-General Joekai has disclosed that there is a plan to move all HRs under the authority of the CSA; to enable them to do their work independently without threat from the heads of entities and ministries.
Meanwhile, all HRs have been advised to use an automated system to keep track of their employees, as well as ensuring efficiency and proficiency.
